Position Overview:
Staples Merchandising-ServicesTeam is looking for an enthusiastic intern to join our team and provide creative ideas to help achieve our goals in retail & digital merchandising. As a Merchandising – Services Intern, you will learn about competitive analysis, research, identifying trends and new products and services, business analysis, proofing marketing assets and more.
Staples is focused on our customers and our community. As an Intern for Staples, you will support the team in driving sales and profit growth for a suite of services including Tech, Travel, Recycling, iPostal1, and more. This involves research, ad hoc financial planning and analysis, promo planning and execution, digital and in-store marketing vehicle merchandising, and SKU set-up/maintenance. You will also have exposure and communications across internal and external partners.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Conduct market research, gather industry data, track trends, themes, competitive shopping to assist with item selection and new service offerings
- Competition analysis involving creating and maintaining promotional calendar and sharing relevant information with Manager regarding relevant data, eg online experience, new product or service ideas, notable promotions, presentations or pricing strategies
- Maintain internal merchandising marketing calendar by entering promotions, price changes, coupon codes into appropriate databases
- Retrieve/source financial data in order to conduct weekly/seasonal business reviews, specific to financial goals, with Manager
- Attend vendor meetings to collaborate on business plans and gain exposure to new products and services.
- Communicate new information to cross functional partners eg Marketing, Operations, Inventory, etc
- Answer emails and calls in a timely manner from external vendors or internal cross functional partners
What’s Needed – Basic Qualifications:
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, Marketing or a related field
- Must be a rising junior or senior (graduating by May 2027) enrolled as a full-time student carrying a minimum of 12 college credits
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
What’s Needed – Preferred Qualifications:
- Retail Experience or Passion for Retail/Merchandising
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and follow through effectively
- Able to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
- Able to work independently and collaborate effectively across diverse teams and departments
